About

Craft Liquids is a project ten years in the making.

The complementary worlds of tech and craft beverages might seem like an odd pair, but you could say the same about Joel and Jeremy. Starting in 2006, they worked together at a non-profit, Joel as the project manager and Jeremy in content development. Fast forward to 2015, Joel and Jeremy had been working together for nearly a decade. Due to a change in job for Jeremy, they looked for a project that they could work on together – something they both loved.

After discovering craft beer in college in the late 1990s, Jeremy became a passionate advocate for better beer. Whether drinking it or making it himself, beer was serious business. Technology, however, was not his forte. Joel, on the other hand, had been a tech fanatic since he used his first Apple II. He consistently dabbled in and followed news about everything tech but was not initially a beer guy. Over time, Joel taught Jeremy passable technology skills, and Jeremy turned Joel into a full-blown beer geek. Their shared passion led to many late-night discussions over beers (in proper glassware, of course).

Planning a trip with multiple brewery destinations can be daunting. In 2015, they created a Chicago area directory to simplify the process. In 2016, they expanded to include IL & WI listings at BreweryFinder.org. By 2019, the duo had over 7,800 breweries on the site from each of the 50 U.S. states and all over Canada. The hand-built brewery directory listed over 26,000 brewery locations globally by 2022.

Craft Liquid is a project ten years in the making. We’re a location-focused craft liquid directory catering to those who love experiencing what’s out there in the world of drink. Alcoholic, non-alcoholic, caffeinated, sweetened, and more – there are tens of thousands of producers in the United States that we’d love to share with you.

Our current location categories include:

  • Breweries
  • Cideries
  • Distilleries
  • Meaderies
  • Wineries

These locations feature the typical contact details, hours, and reviews you’d expect from a directory like ours. It also includes Events, Jobs, and Trails attached to many locations, aimed at connecting the communities we love: craft liquids.

Because these concepts have been at the heart of what Joel and Jeremy do in their free time, they have both delved into their respective worlds (and dabbled on each other’s turf). Joel has immersed himself in the worlds of WordPress, crowdfunding, and social networks (which is why he gets websites and users). Jeremy is in the process of further Cicerone training and brews whenever he gets the chance. Joel brews beer from time to time (and samples a lot of great beer), and Jeremy runs a website (that Joel created).

From a love of beer and tech, they collaborated to create something that fills a gap in the craft beverage world. In all that they do, their goal is to enhance the community of craft liquid enthusiasts so that more people get to experience great beverages and the people who make them. When the craft liquids bug bites, you never recover.
